Roboraptor - A Fusion of Technology and PersonalityEver since the scientific description of dinosaurs by William Buckland in 1824, dinosaurs have provided endless hours of interest to us humans, from the laboratory, to big screen movies and of course through science attractions...
...and now, they're poised to enter our homes, by way of the Roboraptor - a robotic version of one of the fiercest (if not the fiercest) known dinosaur, the Raptor. If you think Roboraptor is just another toy, think again.
With dinosauresque advanced artificial intelligent personality, realistic biomorphic motions, direct control and autonomous (free-roam) modes, the Age of Dinosaurs has returned in a big way. We're not kidding either - the Roboraptor measures about 80cm from head to tail and comes to life with the following features:
- fluid bi-pedal motion: walking, running and predatory gaits,
- realistic body movements: turning head and neck and whipping tail actions,
- three distinct moods: hunter, cautious and playful,
- autonomous environmental interaction: responds with mood specific behaviours and sounds,
- mood dependent behaviour: aggressive/hunting mood, nervous/cautious mood and friendly/playful mood,
- multi-sensory: tail, chin and mouth touch sensors and head sonic sensors,
- infra-red vision system detects objects in path, or approaching,
- powerful jaws that play tug-of war games, “bite” and pull,
- “laser” tracking technology: trace a path on the ground and Roboraptor will follow it,
- visual and sonic guard mode,
- responds to commands from Robosapien V2,
- auto shut-off function,
- video game style controller,
- demonstration mode; and
- 40+ pre-programmed functions.
Named 2005 Toy of The Year at the Australian Toy Fair, Roboraptor is set to prey on the world of robotic toys, but you better be quick - extinction may not be too far away.
Taunt, play, learn but most importantly, entertain yourself with your very own dinosaur, the Roboraptor.
