Original game cheat codes will work with the Sega Mega Drive 6-in-1 Retro Joystick. We know you'll discover others, but here's a head start for Sonic the Hedgehog:

Level SelectPress Up, Down, Left, Right on the title screen and you will hear a chime. Hold down A and press start to access the secret level select screen.

Debug ModePress Up, C, Down, C, Left, C, Right, C then hold down A and press start. Continue to hold A until the game begins. Screen co-ordinates will appear instead of a score and the number of objects displayed will appear instead of the time remaining. Use one of the following controller actions to enable the corresponding debug code:

Object transformationPress B to change Sonic into a game sprite. Press A to change the object. Press C to place an object on the screen. Press B again to revert back to being Sonic. Accessible objects change from level to level.

InvincibilitySonic is, by default, invincible - but you will still lose rings if you get hit.

Slow MotionPause the game and hold B.

RestartPause the game and press A.

Frame AdvancePause the game and press C.

Crazy SonicHold A+B+C during the demo mode to force Sonic to run into objects and act strangely. This also applies during the end sequence after completing the Final Zone.

Bonus PointsComplete Green Hill Zone 1-1 or 1-2 in 29 seconds or less to collect 50,000 bonus points.

Each unit weighs approximately 500 grams, connects to most modern PAL TV/video sets (Australian standard) via a 4m RCA cable / Mini-Mega Drive console set (included) and requires 4 x AA alkaline batteries (not included). The Mini-Mega Drive console can also be powered by a 6V mains adaptor (not included).

Troubleshooting: any picture degradation (including green screen, glitches and other artefacts) is almost certainly due to low batteries. Installing a fresh set of batteries should rectify the problem.
