Way back in the early 90s when these games first came out, you'd need both your Sega Mega Drive and game cartridges to play. Now, with the magic of miniaturisation, the Sega Mega Drive II Games Console is all you'll need come play time. The fact it plugs straight into your TV, looks mint, is portable and retro cool are all bonuses.

As for the games...first and foremost there's Sonic 2. Sonic 2 boasts more graphics and longer levels, double the amount of zones, a "3D" special stage and boasts blast processing, well-written music, unique levels and the introduction of a new character: Miles "Tails" Prower. It became one of the top-selling games of all time and is looked upon by many fans with fond memories as their first introduction to the Sonic series of games.

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle is a game where a monkey-boy child, Alex Kidd searches for his father. It is a platformer, with punches used to destroy enemies (rather then the traditional jump on head). The game is most noted for the inclusion of Rock, Paper, Scissors, which was used against bosses and to obtain secret items in the game.

The Ooze is a strange actioner in which you control an amorphous glob of green goo and Gain Ground is an obscure, but riveting combat simulator that's so addictive you'll be reaching for the callus cream.

Finally, there's Columns, a puzzler reminiscent of that Soviet software great, Tetris.

Now, despite the world moving on since 1992, the Sega Mega Drive II Games Console isn't just a toy to remind you of music's grungy times, Sharon Stone's sex appeal or Russell Crowe playing Nazi. These 16-bit classic games are visually impressive adventures with real depth and addiction.

Once you and Sonic start collecting rings and Chaos Emeralds, you'll be hooked, lined and sinkered!

"Two player" mode:It is possible to play Sonic 2 in a split-screen "two player" mode, but as the unit is self-contained, the second player is computer controlled. It is not possible to connect more than one gaming unit for two-player operation.

Each unit weighs approximately 500 grams, connects to most modern PAL TV/video sets (Australian standard) via a 4m RCA cable / Mini-Mega Drive console set (included) and requires 4 x AA alkaline batteries (not included). The Mini-Mega Drive console can also be powered by a 6V mains adaptor (not included).

Troubleshooting: any picture degradation (including green screen, glitches and other artefacts) is almost certainly due to low batteries. Installing a fresh set of batteries should rectify the problem.
