Many of us out there too young to remember Bruce Lee had our first brush with Martial Arts watching Ralph Macchio washing cars in Karate Kid. Years after, fired up with thoughts of our own Elisabeth Shue, a few went to the local PCYC and found a Sensei, but most of us went to the arcade and played Street Fighter II.
Routinely listed as one of the greatest video games of all time, this was the game that made men out of boys giving characters their own unique back-stories, plots and moves...and now in Australia, exclusive to LatestBuy, you can go beat-em-up styles with the Street Fighter II 2 Player Plug 'n' Play games console.
Featuring two individual Mega Drive-style controllers each with six buttons, this 2 player plug 'n' play unit plugs straight into your TV - it's that simple, requiring no consoles or cartridges - just the fastest finger configurations for Ryu's powerful dragon punch, E.Honda's 100 hand slap or Guile's sonic boom!
As with the original arcade version of Street Fighter II, players can choose either Arcade or Vs Mode but remember, while playing against the ghosts in your console's fun when you're on your own, there's no bragging rights in beating a silicon chip!
As a bonus, the unit also includes another game - Ghouls and Ghosts. Just take on the role of Knight Arthur, who must recover his bride's soul from Lucifer and reminisce on simple stuff like jumping, throwing holy water and collecting treasure - cool.
But getting back to Street Fighter II, it's a bit of pop-culture history in a box. Sure the moves aren’t quite from The Matrix, but this game was the pre-cursor of the fighting games of today. Yeah you could justify getting the unit for its world heritage value, but we think you should get one just because pounding pixels and reminiscing back to the old days is well...just fun.
